Headshot Tips For Women
Your headshot is often your first impression , on LinkedIn, your website, company profiles, or speaking engagements. The goal isn’t to look different. It’s to look like the most confident, polished version of you.
A little preparation goes a long way. These simple tips will help you feel confident, camera-ready, and fully prepared for your session.

WHAT TO WEAR

Solid Colors
Solid tones photograph best and keep the focus where it belongs on your face. Busy patterns, heavy embellishments, and bold graphics can distract from your expression and overall presence.
Tailored & Well-Fitted Pieces
Structure is flattering. Well-fitted, tailored clothing creates a clean, professional silhouette on camera. Avoid overly loose or slouchy tops, as they can add visual bulk and look less polished in photographs.
AVOID LOW CUT TOPS
Headshots are framed from the chest upward. Extremely low-cut tops can pull attention away from your face. Choose necklines that feel refined, structured, and professional.
Sleeve Length
Long sleeves tend to photograph more elegantly and create a streamlined look. Short sleeves can sometimes draw attention to the edge of the frame unless perfectly tailored and pressed.
Proper Undergarments
Ensure undergarments are seamless and hidden. Visible straps or lines can distract from an otherwise polished image.
AVOID TRANSPARENT TOPS
Test your outfit in natural light before your session. Sheer or transparent fabrics may reveal undergarments on camera. If wearing a lighter fabric, consider layering with a blazer or structured jacket.
Color Selection
Vibrant tones can create a confident, modern statement , especially for branding or entrepreneurial headshots.
Darker shades offer a timeless, elevated feel. Navy, charcoal, and deep jewel tones photograph beautifully and are often more flattering than pure black.
Be mindful of tones that closely match your hair or skin, as they can appear washed out on camera without contrast or layering.
Jewelry
Keep accessories minimal. Statement jewelry can pull focus away from your expression. Clean, simple, and timeless styling always photographs best.

OUR TOP SKIN & BEAUTY TIPS:

A little thoughtful prep goes a long way. The goal is fresh, healthy, and natural , nothing heavy or overdone.
Glow From Within
Hydration is everything. Drink plenty of water in the week leading up to your session and try to limit sugary or dehydrating drinks. Well-hydrated skin photographs beautifully.
Plan Treatments Ahead
If you wax (including brows) or schedule facials, try to book them several days before your session. Skin can stay sensitive or slightly red, and giving it time to settle ensures a smooth, even look on camera.
The same goes for exfoliating , do it a few days prior, not the day before.
Keep Skin Happy
Stick to products you know and love. This isn’t the time to test something new. Moisturize consistently during the week of your session so your skin feels balanced and healthy.
Prioritize Rest
Sleep truly shows. Aim for a full night of rest before your session so you look refreshed, energized, and confident.

OUR MAKEUP TIPS :

Think polished and natural.
Makeup should enhance your features , not compete with them. Neutral tones close to your natural complexion tend to photograph best, especially for professional headshots.
If you love doing your own makeup, keep it soft and matte. Avoid heavy highlighting, shimmer, or too much powder, as studio lighting can amplify shine and texture.
If you prefer a more elevated finish, working with a professional makeup artist can make a noticeable difference in how your look translates on camera.
